Remembering Our Friends
We remember our equine friends that have left the world of form. We know that their souls continue. Our friends live in the memories of all the living beings that they encountered in the form world. We are grateful to have the opportunity to care for them.

Razzy
Passed July 9, 2019
Our journey with Razzy began in 2014 at a feedlot in Sunnyside, Washington. While there, we met a fellow rescuer who told us about a 30-year-old Paint mare she had saved from starvation but could no longer house. When we met Razzy near Seattle, we found a spirited, "young at heart" horse and immediately decided to give her a permanent home in Hood River.
As she was being unloaded at our farm, we were casually informed she might have been exposed to a Mammoth Jack donkey. Given her age, we assumed pregnancy was unlikely and attributed her weight gain to her new, nutritious diet. To our surprise, nature took its course, and Razzy soon gave birth to a daughter, Daisy.
Razzy was an exceptional mother, raising Daisy within the safety of our herd where she taught her the ways of the world. Kind, affectionate, and gentle enough for children to ride, Razzy spent her final years in peace, passing away on July 9, 2019, leaving behind a beautiful legacy in Daisy.

Madre
Passed July 11, 2020
Madre, an eight-to-nine-year-old Mustang from the Nevada BLM ranges, arrived at our sanctuary June 15, 2015 with a spirit defined by devotion. As the steadfast partner to Navarrone, who was blind in one eye, she acted as his protector during their time in the feedlot and their long journey to Oregon. Even during their quarantine in Nevada, her selfless nature shone through as she waited for him to eat first, standing guard over his vulnerable side. This nurturing instinct never wavered; throughout her years with us, Madre remained a calm, guiding presence for the entire herd. She was a truly kind and gentle soul, and her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her.

Maggie
Maggie - Passed on January 28, 2023
Maggie arrived at the sanctuary in her 33 year of life. Maggie was an Arabian mare that had an owner who was in a life transition. Maggie was a senior Matriarch of the herd. Let's say like a grandmother. She loved to be surrounded by the senior geldings. Jack was her favorite. Sometimes you can feel the warmth of a horse by being near them as another living being, and sense their spirit. Maggie was a gentle spirit with the attitude of a young filly. In Maggie's eyes, you could see her wisdom and kind being. Maggie had touched my heart and she is missed.

Sissy
Sissy - Passed on
March 7, 2024.
Sissy came to us in as 25 year old Tennesee Walking horse. She was kind and beautiful spirit
and we miss her. Sissy arrived at the santuary in May of 2023. We never know the history of a horse when they arrive. Sissy jumped right of the trailer and made herself right at home. Sissy loved to be with senior "boy friends". Sissy was beautiful to watch run.
We feel grateful to have had her presence for a time.
So long sweet girl.

Navarrone
Navarrone passed on October 28, 2024. Navarrone was a special being. His wild spirit never left him. He endured hardships and unknown amount of pain in his life. He found his herd and his friend Big Jett at Cimarron and he is miss everyday.

Bayou
Out beautiful Bayou passed on April 18, 2025. Bayou was part of one of the senior groups at the sancturary. When Bayou arrived at the sactuary he was defensive and did not want to interact with other horses or people. Bayou became relaxed and calm in the years at the sanctuary. We feel grateful for the time we had with this gentle beautiful being.

Step
Our dear friend Step passed on Monday October 13, 2025. Step came to us at 32 years of age. Step was a grand fellow. He was 34 to 35 years old and was very special to all of us at the sanctuary. Step was very intelligent and kind. It took a few years to earn his trust. I am honored to call him a friend and so very grateful to have the time with him.
The passing of a horse is sacred experience. Each time it occurs, It reminds me of how precious is life here on earth.
